A true literary experiment

King Chameleon wasn't born in a studio—he was engineered in a classroom. We co-created an innovation lab with Mrs. Miller and her 6th grade class (BCHA 2023) using the principles of Younger Me Academy to explore idea generation and product development. The goal: to create the "best children's book in the world."

King Chameleon was based on a classroom idea for a Chameleon who didn't like his camouflage, and it became a critically-acclaimed breakout bestseller before being acquired by Sourcebooks.

Learning about friendship by building a friendship

Most children's books about friendship stay in the shallow end. King Chameleon literally dives into the muddy, messy reality of building a bond directly with you—egos, mistakes, exposure, heartache, and the growth that follows. Every book is a first-person journey where you don’t just read a story; you grow in a new way with a character.

By the end of the series, you haven’t just finished a book—you’ve built a genuine relationship with a friend who is learning to show his true colors right alongside you.

The art of standing out

Identity is colorful, even when you can blend in. What better way to explore self-acceptance than with a hero who can't help but disappear? King Chameleon navigates the same choice we all face: is it better to hide who you are to fit in, or show your true colors and be seen? It’s a vivid look at identity that meets kids exactly where they are.

A multiplayer experience

All of our books aim for "multi-generational magic," and with King Chameleon, everyone of every age gets to play. Between the addicting search-and-find games and the high-stakes role play, parents and kids can either enjoy a shared game or immerse themselves in a shared performance for a truly special moment together.

The best stories are the ones you help to tell.

A gallery of a storybook

To complement the depth of the story, we moved away from standard children's illustrations with landscape artist Sourav Majumder's sprawling, museum-quality masterpieces. Each page is designed to build an early appreciation for artistic detail, pulling readers of all ages into an immersive world that feels more like a canvas than a storybook.

A Gold Medal Winner

Reader's Favorite awarded King Chameleon These read-alouds are from the original versions of MYTHICAL FEASTS, before the May 2026 re-launch with Penguin Random House. To be updated soon! "A delightful read that promises to be a favorite on many children's bookshelves, inspiring them to shine brightly in their unique ways."
